JANUARY

15/01/24 - Full day meeting with my fellow SNP Councillors. Workshops, briefings and discussions on what the SNP have been able to achieve for you and what we can do moving forward.

19/01/24 - Attended briefing on End of life care and support.

23/01/24 - Joined with family members of those residing in McClymont House at another public briefing discussing the possible closure of the home. Attended with SNP Councillors Julia Marrs and Ian McAllan. Also in attendance was Cllr Ross Clark, candidate for Hamilton & Clyde Valley Westminster election. These meetings are always emotive but I was happy to see that certain aspects had been listened to such as a better sound system so everyone can hear. There is an underspend of just over £1.2million and the closure of McClymont house would save approx £750,000. Why then won’t they use the underspend? This is what I will be asking at the next IJB meeting. I cannot understand why this Labour administration feel closures to care homes are an answer to our budgetary position.

24/01/24 - Attended the first executive meeting of 2024. More details will be published once possible.

29/01/24 - Briefed about proposed changes and cuts to SLLC facilities including Tileworks Park and Strathaven Park in my own ward. SLLC is a separate entity to the council and therefore councillors don’t have much of a say to those cuts. If any groups are looking to get a Community Asset Transfer, then I’ll happily assist with that.

29/01/24 - Went to the first public consultation regarding the proposed school transport changes. Have a look at my Facebook to see more: Facebook

31/01/24 - First full council of the year. SNP group put forward an emergency motion on the Gaza crisis. The Provost, who is a leading member of the ruling Labour led administration refused to hear it. Does she care about these atrocities??

09/02/24 - Briefing on the proposed Neo-Natal changes at UHW. Please get in touch if you have questions.

11/02/24 - Attended the opening of the new premises of Trust Jack Foundation. I am so impressed with the set up and the range of activities and events they have scheduled. It really is a wonderful resource.

19/02/24 - Meeting of the SNP Group where we have discussed an alternate budget for consideration.

21/02/24 - Special Meeting of the council. Budget Special. Have a look at my Budget 2024/2025 page for further details on some hot topic items.

22/02/24 - Held a public meeting for residents of Avon Water Walk in Stonehouse. Over 40 residents in attendance and to say the issues they are facing with Persimmon are horrendous would be a massive understanding. Plans in place to hold another in March.

05/03/24 - Education Committee Meeting discussing ways in which we can strengthen the resources available to our young people. My motion on Vaping issues was discussed and schools will now start to receive support, advice and literature to crack down on the use of these.

06/03/24 - Attended Social Work resources meeting. The service is struggling with rising costs, decreasing workforce and an aging population

07/03/24 - Met with the owner of the Brew Barn in Stonehouse. What an awesome facility they have created. An absolutely fantastic space has been created for local children in the form of The Play Barn. I’m working with them to get their entertainment licence processed.

12/03/24 - Planning meeting. The most pressing application was for a new McDonalds to be built in Lindsayfield, EK. There were certain aspects that needed to be addressed before we could agree to the plans. Read more of my comments here Plans to develop a McDonald's in East Kilbride have been given the go ahead - Daily Record

21/03/24 - Further meeting with residents from Persimmons Avon Water Walk development. There are many issues at play here and I am appalled at the lack of action from Persimmon. More to follow.

APRIL

01/04/24 - SNP Group Meeting where discussion took place regarding some of the issues created by the new Labour/LibDem budget. There are cuts upon cuts which don’t have to happen. The SNP proposed a budget where these cuts wouldn’t happen but as usual it was voted down.
